2008 is coming to a close. There has been an abundance of speculation about the hedge fund and private equity markets through the year. Barack Obama is the new U.S. president and may change the environment for fund investing. Our membership will be looking at the 2009 environment for fund raising for the gamut of funds by size and type. We will have a panel of pension investment consultants, Fund of Fund portfolio managers and other allocators who will discuss the 2008 experience and the 2009 outlook.


Sachin Shah, , Chief Investment Officer

RBC Emerging Manager Allocator, LP

Mr. Shah has over 10 years of industry experience and is currently responsible for RBC Capital Management Emerging Manager Allocator, LP. Sachin acts as Chief Investment Officer, Board Member and is the RCM Management Committee Chairman. Sachin joined RBC in January of 2007 via the acquisition of Carlin Financial Group. At Carlin, Sachin held the role of Director of Carlin Asset management, a registered investment advisor focused on early stage portfolio managers. Prior to joining Carlin, Sachin co-founded Nextgen Trading LLC where he served as Director of Research. Previously, Sachin was a Senior Analyst for the Merger Arbitrage Group at Bank of America Securities and Royal Bank of Canada, and was a Senior Analyst with the quantitative research group at U.S. Trust. Sachin earned a BBA in finance from George Washington University.

Wanda Felton

Wanda Felton, is a Managing Director at Helix Associates, a leading global placement agent for private equity funds with offices in London and New York, and a division of Jefferies & Company. Ms. Felton has worked in investment banking and private equity fund-raising for more than 20 years. At Helix she advises financial sponsor clients on a full spectrum of needs, including partnership structure, market positioning and capital-raising.

Prior to joining Helix, Ms. Felton was a Director in the Private Fund Group at Credit Suisse First Boston, which had raised $120 billion for private equity funds at the time of her departure. Ms. Felton has represented clients engaged in a broad variety of domestic and international private equity investment strategies, including buyouts, venture capital, emerging markets, distressed securities, mezzanine and real estate opportunities.

Previously, Ms. Felton was a Managing Director at Hamilton Lane Advisors, where she advised institutional investors, such as CalPERS and the New York Common Retirement Fund, in connection with their alternative investment programs. Earlier in her career, Ms. Felton worked at Alex, Brown & Sons Incorporated in Corporate Finance. She began her career at Citicorp in 1984.

Ms. Felton received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. She has supported numerous charter schools and currently chairs Achievement First – North Crown Heights School in Brooklyn. She is a past board member of the Bronx School for Excellence, the Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Gesu School and served on the Finance and Selection Committees of the American Association of University Women.

Neal M. Epstein

Neal M. Epstein, , oversees acquisition research, due diligence and product and performance analysis, supporting Proctor’s private equity investment activities. Neal was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Avatar Associates, responsible for the financial services sector and fixed income portfolios. He was also a founding partner of Overture Asset Managers, LLC where he conducted acquisition research, performance attribution and product development for their portfolio companies.

Formerly, Neal was a mergers and acquisitions Associate, then Vice President and Director of Equity Research at Putnam Lovell Securities, focusing on publicly traded asset managers and industry strategy. Earlier, Neal worked in mergers and acquisitions and investment banking at Yamaichi Securities & Co., Ltd., and Morgan Stanley’s tax-exempt securities group. Neal also conducted international country-focused economic research at Marine Midland Bank, an HSBC Company. Mr. Epstein earned an M.B.A. from the Darden Gradate School of Business, with an M.A. in Asian Studies, at the University of Virginia, and an M.A. in Economics from Columbia University. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy at Swarthmore College. Neal is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of both the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute. He serves as a trustee and chairman of the investment and endowment committee of the Brotherhood Synagogue in New York City.

Michael Flinn

Michael Flinn , Vice President of Strategic Planning and Investor Relations Schonfeld Fund of Funds. Prior to joining SB Schonfeld Fund Advisors in May 2007, Mr. Flinn led the Institutional Municipal Sales Group at Webster Bank. From 1999 through 2004, Mr. Flinn was a Managing Director of Connecticut Capital Markets, LLC, an investment banking boutique located in Greenwich, CT. From late 1996 to early 1999, Mr. Flinn was a Vice President at K&N Kenanga/Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in Malaysia, where he covered US fund managers in Asia and helped take several semiconductor companies public on the KLSE. Mr. Flinn earned a B.A. from Georgetown University in 1987 and an M.B.A. from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University in 1990.

Marie DeFalco

Marie DeFalco, ESQ, Partner, Lowenstein Sandler, represents investment management clients throughout the United States and internationally. She has special expertise in structuring business transactions to maximize the achievement of clients' goals, from both a business and tax perspective, particularly transactions involving limited liability companies and partnerships. Ms. DeFalco assists clients with the formation and operation of hedge funds and private equity funds, in the organization of joint ventures, and in the negotiation of shareholder and limited liability company agreements. She chairs the Fund Formation and Structuring section of Lowenstein's Investment Management Practice Group. Ms. DeFalco holds an A.B. in Economics from Cornell University and a J.D. from Yale Law School. She is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Will Hogan

Will Hogan, , Principal of Godfrey Companies, Inc., offers consulting services to establish and grow investment funds and firms, as well as to restructure and wind-down funds. Will has driven all elements of hedge fund development, including: commercial opportunity evaluation and business planning, attracting talent, devising fund terms and developing offering documents with legal counsel and audit & tax advisors, selecting prime brokers and administrators, driving technology selection, developing marketing materials, and sales and marketing.

Over his 20+ year career, Will has proven adept at driving initiatives within and across organizations, often employing consultative sales techniques at firms such as Aetos Capital/ AEA Holdings, Morgan Stanley, and Ernst & Young. Will has an MBA from New York University and a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Chicago.
