We will be hosting a hedge fund and private equity emerging manager session on May 24th. THERE IS NO WALK IN REGISTRATION. To get through security, you must be registered. The security list will be checked at the front desk and at the door. The reception starts at 6 p.m., the panel begins at 6:30 p.m..

We are midway through 2010. There has been an abundance of speculation about the hedge fund and private equity markets through the year so far. Our membership will be looking at the 2010 environment for fund raising for the gamut of funds by size and type. We will have a panel of pension investment consultants, Fund of Fund portfolio managers and other allocators who will discuss the 2010 experience so far and the outlook for the rest of the year.

Past events have featured numerous leading allocators. Attendees include fund General Partners, Limited Partners, institutional investors, family offices and fund advisors. Other attendees come from the fund subject matter expert and service provider domain.

Our Expert Panel consists of :

Tord Stallvik, Senior Managing Director & President - Protege Partners Tord has been in the alternative asset management industry since 1995 when he joined Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. as Director of Investments in the Private Advisory Services Group. In that position he was involved with alternative asset distribution, product origination and development.

In 2000, Tord joined Schroders Investment Management Limited where he was Executive Director and Head of Business Development and Strategy and co-managed the firm’s alternative investment business. At Schroders, Tord also served on the investment committee for the firm's multi-manager products. He joined Pequot Capital Management in 2003 where he was a Principal and managed an Asian special opportunity joint venture. While at Pequot he also served as the Director of Sales and Product Development. In these roles Tord helped source and create several new single and multi strategy funds. Immediately prior to joining Protege, Tord helped start Pacific Harbor Group, a new pan-Asian alternative asset management firm.

Tord started his career with Kidder, Peabody & Co., Incorporated, where he served as a financial analyst in the Asia Pacific group. Subsequently, he held positions in corporate finance at Swiss Bank Corp. and Bankers Trust Company. Tord received a B.A. with Distinction and High Honors in Economics from the University of Michigan.

Alan Kosan, Managing Director, Head of Alpha Investment Research - Rogerscasey Alan Kosan leads Rogerscasey's Alpha Investment Research Group, responsible for Fundamental/ Quantitative Manager Research. Prior to his present position, Alan headed the Non-Traditional Research Group, which includes private equity, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure and natural resources. Alan is a member of the Fiduciary Investment Review Committee, which provides oversight for our fully discretionary relationships, and the firm’s Management Committee.

Rogerscasey is a diverse, global investment solutions firm. The firm offers a full range of solutions to investors and has a strong client focus with nearly $325B in assets under advisement.

James Wong, Partner - Paulson & Company

James Wong is a Partner and Managing Director of Paulson & Co. He joined Paulson & Co. in 2003 as head of investor relations and is the senior product specialist. He regularly participates in investment team meetings and is the principal liaison between the investment team and the firm's nearly 500 global institutional investors.

Paulson & Co. is a global $32 billion event arbitrage hedge fund founded in 1994 with offices in New York, London and Hong Kong. The firm has three core strategies in merger arbitrage, event arbitrage, and opportunistic credit. John Paulson is president of Paulson & Co., and the fund manager for the Paulson funds. Prior to forming Paulson & Co. in 1994, John was a General Partner at Gruss Partners, a partnership specializing in risk arbitrage, bankruptcy and special situations and a Managing Director in mergers and acquisition at Bear Stearns. John is a Baker Scholar graduate from Harvard Business School and summa cum laude from NYU.

Paulson & Co. is a registered investment advisor and currently has 108 employees. The investment team is comprised of mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance experts with academic distinction, investment banking and legal experience. The team's approach to investing is one of understanding the tradeoffs between risks in corporate events versus potential returns. Portfolios are constructed using a highly selective screening process of identifying and favorably weighting the best risk adjusted return opportunities.

Prior to joining Paulson, from 2000 to 2003, Mr. Wong worked as an analyst and product specialist at Amaranth Advisors. Prior to 2000, he was a senior executive in the technology industry for ten years and graduated from Tufts University in 1986 with a BA in Economics.

Ione Permison, Partner - Quilvest

Ione S.V. Permison is a Partner and Managing Director of Quilvest USA. She co-heads Quilvest Global Real Estate Fund of Funds and will also be responsible for direct investments and co-investments in real estate.

Ione has over 25 years of real estate and banking experience. Before joining Quilvest in June 2008, Ione was with MetLife for 6 years. Most recently, she established a new global real estate private equity investment platform, identifying opportunities and investing nearly $500 million on behalf of Met in 18 real estate private equity funds. She also built a new debt business committing approximately a billion to 19 real estate private equity funds and joint ventures to facilitate their investment activities. Prior to that, she was responsible for Field Operations overseeing Met's 11 field offices engaged in real estate debt and equity investments.

Previously, Ione worked at Merril Lynch where she was responsible for commercial mortgage loan originations in the Eastern region of the U.S. for Merrill Lynch's conduit. For nearly 18 years, she was with JPMorgan Chase and its predecessors in real estate. At JPMC, she was a founding member of Chase Commercial Mortgage, establishing the mortgage loan origination group. Earlier in her career at JPMC, she held various positions in relationship lending to residential mortgage banking companies and issuers of residential mortgage baked securities as well as oversaw a specialized residential mortgage backed security program.
Ione has a B.S. in Commerce with a major in Finance from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from New York University's Stern School of Business.


Betsy Battle, Chief Investment Officer and Partner - Lone Peak Partners


Betsy Battle, Chief Investment Officer of Lone Peak Partners, brings over three decades of financial services and investment experience to the Investment Manager. From March 2000 to April 2008, Ms. Battle served as Director of Manager Selection and a member of the Management Commitee at Soros Fund Management LLC ("SFM"). At SFM, she not only managed multibillion dollar portfolios of external hedge funds for the Quantum group of funds and George Soros, but also built the manager selection and due diligence processes as well as the multi-manager portfolio construction and monitoring methodologies. Prior to SFM, Ms. Battle held positions at Bankers Trust, Citicorp and JP Morgan, primarily as manager in Global Sales and Trading.


Rory Cohen, Partner, Venable

Rory Cohen focuses his practice on advising private investment funds, funds of funds and investment managers on structuring and formation as well as operational, distribution, regulatory and compliance issues. Mr. Cohen assists financial institutions in the structuring and implementation of separate account wrap fee programs, unified managed accounts, variable life insurance products, private fund distribution and regulatory examinations. Mr. Cohen has extensive experience negotiating and structuring seed capital arrangements, private fund access platforms and advising on investment manager and private investment fund due diligence. His counsel relates principally to the Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA and state blue sky laws and regulations. As a Managing Director at Bear Stearns, Mr. Cohen counseled several of the organization's entities on asset management activities, including Bear Stearns Securities Corp., Bear Stearns Asset Management Inc. and Bear Stearns & Co. Inc. During his tenure, among other things, Mr. Cohen supervised the development, implementation and distribution of separate account, mutual fund/ETF and hedge fund platforms. Mr. Cohen also played a key role during the spin-out of an $8 billion asset manager by Bear Stearns Asset Management Inc. in mid-2007. As Associate General Counsel at Prudential Securities Inc., Mr. Cohen advised on development and implementation of investment advisory and wrap fee programs as well as day-to-day compliance and disclosure issues.
